What do I need to know about voting for the November 7 General Election?

How to register to vote

Print anย Ohio Voter Registration form, fill it out and mail it to your county Board of Elections office.

Voter registration requirements

  • Must be a US citizen aged 18 years old or older before the general election date
  • Must have been an Ohio resident for at least 30 days
  • Must be legally competent, non-incarcerated for a felony, and not disenfranchised for violating election laws.

If your name changed โ€“ย If your name legally changed since you last registered, you must update your voter registration at least 30 days before the next election in which you intend to vote. Visitย VoteOhio.govย and click โ€œUpdate Your Voter Registration.โ€

If you moved โ€“ย You must register again. Visitย VoteOhio.govย and click โ€œUpdate Your Voter Registration.โ€

Personal information needed to register

  • Ohio driverโ€™s license or Ohio ID card number
  • Last four digits of your Social Security number

VOTING INFORMATION

Ways to vote before Election Day

  • In-person voting (see voting schedule above). Find your early voting location by calling your county Board of Elections or online atย VoteOhio.govย under the โ€œVoting Early In-Personโ€ section.
  • Mail an absentee ballot. To vote by mail, request an absentee ballot online atย VoteOhio.govย or call your county Board of Elections.

ID requirementsย โ€“ย A valid state-issued photo ID must be presented in order to cast a ballot. Acceptable forms of ID include:

  • Ohio driverโ€™s license
  • State of Ohio ID card
  • Interim ID form issued by the Ohio BMV
  • US passport
  • US passport card
  • US military ID card
  • Ohio National Guard ID card
  • US Department of Veterans Affairs ID card

If you do not have any of the above, you can get a free state-issued ID card at any BMV office.
